Frequently Asked Questions
How does nidraro detect when I fall asleep?
nidraro monitors two key signals from your Apple Watch: your heart rate and your movement. As you fall asleep, your heart rate naturally decreases and your body becomes still. When nidraro detects these patterns consistently, it recognizes that you're drifting off and pauses your audio. This is much more accurate than a simple timer because it responds to your actual physiology, not an arbitrary countdown.
Which audio apps does nidraro work with?
nidraro works with virtually any app that plays audio on your iPhone, including:
- Apple Podcasts
- Audible
- Spotify
- Overcast
- Pocket Casts
- Apple Music
- YouTube (audio)
- And many more
nidraro uses iOS system-level audio controls, so it doesn't need special integration with each app.
Why do I need an Apple Watch?
The Apple Watch provides the heart rate and motion sensors that nidraro needs to detect sleep. Without continuous access to these physiological signals, nidraro would have no way to know when you've actually fallen asleep. The Watch is essential for accurate sleep detection.
Does nidraro drain my Apple Watch battery?
nidraro is designed to minimize battery impact. During normal monitoring, it samples your heart rate every 30 seconds. When it detects you might be getting drowsy, it increases to every 10 seconds for more accuracy. Most users see only a modest battery impact, and the Watch should easily last through a full night of monitoring.
What if nidraro pauses too early or too late?
You can adjust the sensitivity in nidraro's settings:
- Pause Delay — How long nidraro waits after detecting sleep before pausing. A longer delay reduces false positives.
- Wake Grace Period — How long you have to stir before nidraro resumes playback, preventing accidental resumes.
If you find nidraro pausing while you're still awake, try increasing the pause delay. If it's pausing too late, try decreasing it.
Is my health data private?
Absolutely. All data stays on your device. nidraro does not collect, transmit, or store any of your health information on external servers. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no analytics. Your heart rate and sleep data are yours alone. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What is the rewind suggestion?
When you wake up, nidraro shows you a "rewind suggestion" — the amount of time between when it first detected you were getting drowsy and when it paused playback. This tells you roughly how much of the audio you might have missed while falling asleep. You can use this to rewind your podcast or audiobook to the right spot.
Can I use nidraro without starting a workout?
nidraro uses Apple's Workout Mode internally to maintain continuous access to heart rate data. This happens automatically when you start monitoring — you don't need to start a separate workout. The "workout" isn't recorded or saved to your fitness history; it's purely a technical mechanism for sensor access.
What happens if my Watch disconnects from my iPhone?
If the connection between your Apple Watch and iPhone is lost during monitoring, nidraro will pause playback as a safety measure (assuming you may have fallen asleep). When the connection is restored, you can see what happened in your session history.
Troubleshooting
"Connect Apple Watch" message
If you see this message, try the following:
- Make sure your Apple Watch is paired with your iPhone
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone
- Check that the nidraro app is installed on your Apple Watch
- Restart both your iPhone and Apple Watch
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone and verify the pairing
nidraro won't start monitoring
Check the following:
- HealthKit permissions are granted (Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → nidraro)
- Your iPhone is not in Low Power Mode
- Your Apple Watch is not in Low Power Mode or Theater Mode
- The nidraro Watch app is running (you should see it on your Watch)
Sleep not being detected
Try these adjustments:
- Ensure your Apple Watch is snug on your wrist for accurate heart rate readings
- Reduce the pause delay in Settings if detection is taking too long
- Make sure you're relatively still when trying to fall asleep
- Check that your Watch's heart rate sensor is clean and making good contact with your skin
Audio not pausing
Verify that:
- Audio is playing from your iPhone (not directly from another device)
- The audio app is using standard iOS audio APIs
- nidraro is actively monitoring (check the app screen)
- Your iPhone is not in Do Not Disturb mode with audio silenced
High Watch battery drain
If you notice unusual battery drain:
- Make sure you're running the latest version of nidraro
- End monitoring sessions when you wake up rather than letting them timeout
- Check if other Watch apps might be consuming battery
- Restart your Apple Watch to clear any background processes
